This is actually a review for a discontinued model made by Sage, the Light Line (or LL). Some say it was their best medium action rod. I have the 8’6” 3 piece 5 wt. version of this rod and love it. It has a beautiful burgundy colored finish with a nickel silver and rosewood reel seat. It lacks power on windy days and if you’re a distance fiend look elsewehere, but on small streams you don’t need anything else. Within 50 feet it’s deadly accurate and makes elegant presentations with dries and also handles smaller nymphs nicely. If you’re coming from a fast action rod it might take a little practice to get used to it’s more mellow action. Sage’s customer service is also first rate. I broke the tip once by stupidly tugging hard on a snag. For $20, Sage had the rod back to me in less than a week. If you ever happen across a used Light Line, and would like to try a more moderate action rod, don’t hesitate to pick up this little gem.
